Is your child ready to start going to school? Are you deciding whether or not you should send your child to a private school or a public school? Here are a few pros and cons for both, which can help you decide about the education that could affect your child’s future.

1. Public Schools: the public school system, which is funded by the government has many pros and cons, these include:
a. Pros:
i. Larger schools, more people to interact with
ii. Free schooling, government funded
iii. Less strict regarding discipline and uniform issues
iv. More opportunities
b. Cons:
i. Less controlled environment
ii. Your child could be exposed to different types of people that could influence them in various ways. (Ex: gangs)
iii. Larger classroom sizes, which could result in some students not getting the help that they may need.

2. Private Schools: like the public school system, private schools , which are not government funded and usually smaller, have many pros and cons as well:
a. Pros:
i. Due to the smaller size of the school there is a smaller student teacher ratio, which means that each student is given a certain amount of attention, and more help.
ii. More controlled environment, restrictions on the types of children that can enter the school. Students are also given more attention, thus they will not do as much bad stuff.
iii. Child is exposed to pretty much the same people.
iv. Higher standards of academics
b. Cons:
i. Can be costly
ii. Uniforms
iii. More disciplined
iv. Because the child is exposed to the same people, they usually do not know how to deal with people from different backgrounds when they venture into the workforce.
