Voluntary recall of Heparin by Baxter

San Francisco, CA - After effects of the use of Heparin has raised an alarm. Baxter Healthcare Corporation, in the wake of adverse reactions caused by the use of drug, has instructed an immediate recall of 9 lots of Heparin drugs. Customers have been asked to discontinue use and the company has issued instructions that customers should immediately contact their wholesaler or distributor for return and replacement of the product.The voluntary recall of nine lots of heparin sodium injection  in 30-ml and 10-ml multi-dose vials began on January 17, 2008 after receiving reports of increased adverse effects on patients who were administered the drug. The company is researching the cause of such allergic type reactions.
 
Reactions experienced from  using the drug include:

  • Diarrhea, 
  • Rapid heart rate,
  • Dizziness,
  • Burning sensation,
  • Increased sweating,
  • Abnormal sensation,
  • Restlessness
  • Chest pain
  • Low blood pressure,
  • Unresponsiveness,
  • Shortness of breath,
  • Redness or paleness of skin,
  • Headache,
  • feeling unwell,
  • Watery eyes, Throat swelling,  and difficulty opening of mouth.
