Hurst is a 42 years old single mother who suffers from breast cancer and is going to loose her hair during chemotherapy. However, Cindy is worried over her own diagnosis and her daughter’s reaction. According to Cindy- “I’m the center of her universe.” She added “I started thinking about how I would tell her.”

According to Cindy Hurst who was trying to tell her young daughter about her medical condition while using vague ways of approaching the subject, her daughter would not understand as-“I was expecting her to ask questions, but she would change the subject, so I didn’t know if I was getting through to her.” However, when Hurst approached her daughter Ellie for a haircut, Ellie was excited and “She got her little kid scissors and I said, ‘Go for it! Cut it short everywhere!” When an adult friend of Cindy shaved off the head, according to Cindy -”She was calm afterwards and she kept rubbing my head.” However, this was a turning point that was understood by Ellie.
